Midway on the Mountain-Bay

Trailhead Center Grand Opening

Saturday, September 28, 2024

Presented By:

Friends of the Mountain-Bay Trail Shawano County

Shawano Pathways

The Trailhead Center in the former Chicago & North Western depot in Shawano is a joint project of Shawano Pathways and Friends of the Mountain Bay Trail Shawano County.  The trailhead preserves history of the depot, while providing a rest stop for users of the trail.  The rest stop includes restrooms, water bottle filler, and information about the trail.  The center honors the donors who helped to fund the center and maintenance of Shawano County's portion of the Mountain-Bay Trail (53 miles).

To celebrate the grand opening of the center, we're inviting you to come to a ribbon cutting with donuts, juice, and coffee.  After the ceremony, hike or bike on the trail in either direction.  You can start anytime after 9:30 AM.  We'll have ATVs providing support and gear until noon in Shawano County.  You're welcome to continue your activity later than noon, just note that you'll be unsupported.

We encourage you to bring water, snacks, and other items to make a day of it.  Stop at any of the shelters along the trail to have a BYO picnic.  Or stop at any of the "trail-towns" to build your own adventure of good eats and treats.

The trail is predominately composed of crushed limestone.  However, there is a section of the trail that is on-road if you travel west of Shawano.
